Mermaid of the Drowned – The Siren’s Transforming Touch

Among jagged rocks and churning water, a mermaid watches as a man reaches toward her from the sea.

At first glance, the moment appears almost tender. His hand rests against her as he pulls himself upward through the waves, while she remains poised calmly above him. But the transformation has already begun.

Scales spread across the arm that touches her, turning flesh into something unmistakably aquatic and giving the entire scene a darker, more ambiguous edge.

Sculpted by Henry Naas for CA3D Studios, Mermaid of the Drowned is a large narrative fantasy diorama built around the contrast between beauty, danger and transformation.

The mermaid dominates the composition, her enormous tail sweeping across the rock formation in a broad curve. Thousands of individually sculpted scales create an intricate surface across the body, while layered fins, flowing hair, shells and marine jewellery introduce finer areas of detail.

Below her, the male figure emerges from turbulent water, one hand gripping the rocks while the other reaches toward her. The scaled transformation spreading from the point of contact turns what might otherwise be a romantic encounter into something far more uncertain.

Is she rescuing him, transforming him, claiming him—or simply watching something inevitable unfold?

The environmental sculpting gives the diorama much of its presence.

Jagged rocks rise through breaking waves, creating a substantial base beneath the figures and giving painters several contrasting surfaces to explore. Smooth skin, dense scales, translucent-style fins, wet rock and turbulent water all sit within the same composition, making the model particularly well suited to advanced display painting.
